Anthem has decided to launch its in-house pharmacy benefit manager IngenioRx in the second quarter of this year, according to a Modern Healthcare report, which is about nine months earlier than originally planned.
The insurance giant says it will end its current contract with Express Scripts on March 1, and will promptly being shifting members to the new program over 12 months.
Gail Boudreaux, Anthem’s president and chief executive, says the updated schedule will help Anthem hit the market with “better economics earlier and also accelerate our whole person health strategy … .”
“Since announcing our intent to create IngenioRx, we have been carefully planning the transition, including the possibility of an early launch, and are confident in our ability to execute the transition under the accelerated schedule,” Boudreaux said.
